Just because I lost 80lbs doesn’t mean my life became any easier. I still had to deal with my feelings, I still had to deal with ME.
Bad days still happen. There will always be an excuse to derail… a busy schedule, an event to attend, a stressful trigger. I had to learn and accept that my BIGGEST TOOL to lasting change is my level of ADAPTABILITY. When I started my wellness journey- I acted like a toddler when I was faced with the discomfort of change. Vulnerability and accountability felt like someone snatching a warm blanket off me while still asleep. I didn’t know how to feel, manage, or process uncomfortable feelings. So I ate them. Which led me to becoming 80lbs over weight, prediabetic, and watching my life from the nosebleed section.
The difference NOW vs THEN?
👉🏼 I sit with with tension
👉🏼 I allow myself to feel whatever is bothering me
👉🏼 I make friends with the feelings to understand them
👉🏼 I protect and parent myself with compassion
👉🏼 I purge the negative thoughts vs binging on them
👉🏼 I have a commitment to myself and understanding that food is a source of nourishment and enjoyment- not a bandaid.
How did I do this? The answer may underwhelm you.
I used good ole’ behavior change techniques to develop simple but effective coping skills.
It didn’t happen overnight, but after staying consistent with my self-care habits (like daily journaling), my body AND mind transformed.
Routine and healthy habits saved my life.
They’ll change yours too.
